so how do we Overcome that?
First it’s critically important to shed light on how NOT to do it.
We want to be free from the aforementioned mindset…the grind, the isolation. We definitely want our work to matter more than just solving customer problems so we can make more money. We need deeper purpose and meaning from our efforts and gifts. More pointedly, we need significance from, and in, our work.
So a lot of men decide to volunteer at church, do missions, serve on a ministry board, and/or join an accountability group.
these are the WRONG ways to achieve that significance.
No doubt that comment may bring some ire. But it is not intended to be a blanket condemnation of Christian service. Hang with me for a few moments as I explain.
There are thousands of Christian men who have taken their seemingly secular work and businesses from worldly irrelevance to Kingdom significance, and it didn’t come from those other activities. Each man is experiencing personal spiritual abundance, in and through his work...apart from volunteering at church, doing international missions, and outside of an accountability group.
Yes, many Christian men volunteer and support ministries in different ways. And these can be honorable forms of Kingdom service...as long as you have the time and energy to add more stuff into your life.
But adding to a full plate, particularly when done out of desperation or an unhealthy spiritual depravity, makes that plate heavy and unbalanced. The man holding the plate suffers. His people suffer.
Most importantly, King Jesus is not honored.
The right way to fix it, to experience Kingdom significance in our work, comes in the form of an exchange...an exchange of MIND TRASH such as loneliness, frustration, emptiness and shame for the fruits of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control)...fruits that are absolutely meant to be experienced in and through our work.
It is possible to experience the joy of the Lord right where you spend half of your awake life...without fear of cancel culture.
